The Role

The Department of Biomedical Sciences, within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, is seeking to appoint a senior academic (Associate Professor or Professor) to take a leadership role and contribute to the development and delivery of the Faculty’s educational programs – including Bachelor of Clinical Sciences, Masters of Public Health, Doctor of Physiotherapy and the Macquarie MD, an innovative graduate-entry medical education program. The successful candidate will have a background in the medical sciences discipline, and be a leader in the field of medical education with a proven record of demonstrating innovative teaching practices through blended learning, use of teaching technology and experiential learning and will possess an in-depth knowledge of assessment techniques.

The Faculty has strong educational expertise, and the applicant will be expected to participate in and encourage a research profile that positions Macquarie as a leader in the delivery of innovative academic medical education.

In this role, you will:

  • Design, develop, deliver, review and update teaching materials for the Faculty’s clinical and medical education programs, particularly in the areas of the basic and/or applied medical and clinical sciences (e.g. biochemistry, genetics, molecular or cellular biology, physiology, pathology, anatomy, pharmacology or pharmacy);
  • Design, develop and enhance curricula;
  • Design, develop, implement and review methods to assess student learning;
  • Convene units of study and supervise research students;
  • Contribute to research, producing publications and applications for research grants; and
  • Contribute to promotion and development of the Faculty and the MQ Health vision of Heal. Learn. Discover.

Selection Criteria

For Associate Professor-Level D applicants:

Essential

  • A PhD in Biomedical or Medical Sciences or related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and review of curricula with a commitment and capability to deliver high quality learning and teaching in areas relevant to medical education – such as the medical sciences including molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, physiology, pathology, pharmacology or anatomical and cellular sciences
  • Demonstrated contribution to leadership in program design, innovation, administration and delivery within a reflective approach to learning and teaching
  • Demonstration of research impact at an international level and evidence of high-quality publications based upon a sustained research program
  • A track record of attracting external competitive grant funding at a national or international level,
  • A track record of research supervision and evidence of on time HDR student completions
  • Demonstrated capacity to build collaborative partnerships with industry and professional bodies for sustained positive outcomes for teaching, and/or research and/or healthcare
  • Evidence of mentoring and development of junior colleagues and students
  • Evidence of leadership within the broader academic and non-academic community

Desirable

  • Experience monitoring graduate outcomes and contributing to medical education programs

For Professor-Level E applicants:

Essential

  • A PhD in Biomedical or Medical Sciences or related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and review of curricula with a commitment and capability to deliver high quality learning and teaching in areas relevant to medical education – such as the medical sciences including molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, physiology, pathology, pharmacology or anatomical and cellular sciences
  • Demonstrated strategic leadership role in learning and teaching design, delivery and management within a reflective approach
  • Demonstration of research leadership/impact at an international level and evidence of high-quality publications based upon a sustained research program
  • Significant track record of attracting external competitive grant funding at a national or international level,
  • Significant track record of research supervision and evidence of on time HDR student completions
  • Demonstrated capacity to build and sustain collaborative partnerships with industry and/or professional bodies for sustained positive outcomes
  • Evidence of high level influence on research and/or teaching practice
  • Evidence of leadership within the broader academic and non-academic community
  • Evidence of ability to effectively develop capability and manage performance

Salary Package: Associate Professor (Level D) base salary from $146,462 to $161,099 p.a. Professor (Level E) base salary from $179,556 to $188,043 p.a; plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading.
