Pro Vice-Chancellor, Higher Degree Research (HDR) Training & Partnerships

The University

Macquarie University was formed with two propositions in mind: service and engagement. Through this proud tradition, we serve the world in discovery, innovation, cooperation and partnerships. From our unique location in the heart of Australia’s largest high-technology precinct, we have the perfect platform for engaging with, and making an impact on, the world through our outstanding research and innovation.

The Role

Macquarie’s Strategic Research Framework: 2015 – 2024 firmly establishes the University’s approach to world-leading research with world-changing impact. The framework also details Macquarie’s commitment to preparing world-ready HDR candidates via a suite of targeted supporting strategies. The global nature of Macquarie’s programs is given further substance in the supporting framework “Follow the Leader: International Research Training Partnerships”, which ensures the University continues to lead as it expands its international research training programs.

As Pro Vice-Chancellor HDR Training and Partnerships you will have strategic oversight of HDR candidature throughout the life cycle, advancing our tradition of training and supporting our candidates and the supervisors who mentor them. You will guide policy and process, collaborating with Faculties to ensure the effective delivery of high calibre programs; lead related partnerships, locally and globally; and engage in national and international dialogue on HDR training to ensure that Macquarie embodies best-practice in the experience it offers its HDR candidates.

The Successful Applicant

You will have Doctoral level qualifications; extensive experience as a research active academic; an excellent track record supervising HDR candidates; a deep understanding of supervisor development and supervision pedagogy; and extensive knowledge of the higher education sector, in particular research and research training. The individual appointed will also be able to demonstrate a strong track record as an effective leader who has built a sustained, cohesive and research-oriented culture of high performing teams in a complex matrix-structure environment.  You will possess superior interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders as well as having a successful track record of consultation, staff and student engagement and leadership. Extensive networks within the community and an ability to leverage and optimise these networks to support strategic objectives are also essential.

This is a genuinely exciting opportunity for an ambitious leader who is passionate, engaged and determined to make a difference.

Salary: A competitive salary package and benefits will be negotiated with the successful candidate.

Appointment Type: Full time, fixed term, 5 years
