  • Salary Package: From $ 120,248 to $127,001 (HEW Level 9), plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading

The Role

The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) [DVCRO] is currently seeking a Senior Project Manager (Research) to manage major projects and initiatives to raise the profile of research at Macquarie University.

Reporting to the Executive Manager, Research the Senior Project Manager (Research) will conceptualise, scope, plan and manage the implementation of complex DVCR projects, initiatives and events aimed at raising the profile of research at the University and achieving strategic DVCR goals and deliverables. You will lead the DVCR response to emerging issues, contribute to the ongoing development of strategic initiatives and lead communication strategies.  You will manage and monitor internal research opportunities and provide advice to enable informed decision-making.

As the successful candidate you will be experienced in managing multiple competing projects with the ability to synthesise knowledge and experience in order to provide well informed advice to stakeholders. Your ability to build and maintain influential relationships with a broad range of senior stakeholders and external partners will be key to your success in a role that requires you to build reputation and deliver portfolio projects and initiatives. 

About Us

The DVCR is responsible for the development and strategic enhancement of Macquarie University's research, research training, and innovation profile as well as the creation, support and advancement of local, national and international research collaborations and partnerships. 

The DVCRO is the direct support office for the DVCR and ensures the provision of timely and accurate support for high-level strategic initiatives relating to research at Macquarie.  The DVCRO also manages day-to-day activities relating to the DVCR and provides advice to other areas of the University on matters concerning research.

  • Demonstrated ability to bring attention to detail, critical analysis and sound judgment to decision-making opportunities

  • Experience delivering high-reputation events to a superior standard
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse and report on data to inform strategic decision making
  • Proven ability to manage and report against large and complex budgets


  • Advanced knowledge of the role of research in the higher education/university sector
